Edmonton has an active and growing Indigenous community with the second largest urban Indigenous population in Canada. The Edmonton Public Library is located on Treaty Six territory and the Homeland of the Metis Nation. EPL is committed to a strong and lasting relationship with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
In keeping with Edmonton Public Library’s Community-Led Service model, we are looking for an Indigenous Relations Liaison to connect, consult and collaborate with Indigenous communities in Edmonton and area. This person will provide expertise and support the provision of services that meet the needs and interests of Indigenous communities.

What we're looking for:
The Indigenous Relations Liaison is a skilled relationship-builder, with a passion for making a difference. The Liaison has in-depth knowledge and experience working with Indigenous communities and demonstrates an understanding of historical context, cultural practices, protocols and Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
- A Bachelor's Degree in Arts, Humanities, Community Development, Native Studies or an equivalent discipline.
- Four years' experience in related position, demonstrated expertise in understanding and applying Indigenous historical and cultural contexts in relationship development and service delivery.
Candidates who do not possess at least 4 years of directly related experience may be considered at a lower classification and salary level.

- A commitment to upholding the Canadian Federation of Library Associations position statements on Intellectual Freedom and Diversity and Inclusion.
- Direct and in-depth understanding of local Indigenous communities including Indigenous perspectives, histories, traditions, and protocols.
- Ability to assess community interests and needs.
- Ability to build and maintain sensitive and complex relationships.
- Ability to work effectively with people of all age levels and backgrounds; recognizing the needs of users from a wide variety of cultural, economic, social and educational backgrounds.
- Superior interpersonal, communication, negotiation, presentation and collaboration skills.
- Strong organizational and project leadership skills.
- The ability to work positively and effectively within a team environment.

$38.56 - $49.22 per hour*
*Approximately $70,463 - $89,930 per annum based on a 35 hour work week.
Shift differential may apply in accordance with the terms and conditions of the CSU 52 Collective Agreement.
- The successful candidate may be eligible for relocation assistance.
- Satisfactory background screenings is required for this position which includes a Criminal Record Check/Police Information Check.
- This position will require some travel throughout Edmonton and surrounding areas. Access to a vehicle for business purposes is strongly preferred.
- This position consists of varied schedules which include day, evening and weekend shifts. The Indigenous Relations Liaison is subject to variable hours of work as per the Collective Agreement and shift length may vary based on operational needs
