President & CEO Role

Your overall mandate will be to enable Tides Canada to drive positive change in Canada through innovation, effective stewardship of funds and resources, and tangible outcomes.  Core responsibilities will be to develop and implement strategy, lead and manage the organization and engage effectively with a diverse and evolving set of stakeholders and partners (including foundations and other current or potential donors, governments, Indigenous partners, media, private sector partners, management, staff, project leaders and the Board).                                            

Candidate Profile

As a pre-req for this role, you will embrace and support the mission of Tides Canada, and be motivated to take on tough issues in the pursuit of social, environmental and economic justice for all.  Your leadership style will be defined by a deep confidence, a certain gravitas, empathy, integrity, a strong sense of purpose, compelling communications and relationship skills – and humility.  You will embrace a democratic style of leadership where all voices can be heard but also where tough decisions can be made as needed; you will be a bridge builder, working with diverse parties to effect positive change.

On the practical front, you will bring deep team management experience in complex organizations, ownership of operating budgets with a track record of prudent fiscal management and a demonstrable track record in strategy development and execution.

In terms of other skills, Tides Canada recognizes that there are different types of experience and background which could equip a leader for this role.  No candidate will bring all elements, but as a viable new leader of Tides Canada, you will bring a strong showing of the following:  sophisticated donor relations and fund-raising (especially with foundations and government),  public profile/PR/issues management, public policy engagement/exposure/understanding, a knowledge/understanding of corporate governance, understanding/engagement with Indigenous communities and/or the Canadian North, commitment to diversity and inclusion, and as a bonus, exposure to impact investing.
