Alumni Officer, International Programs

Internationalization is a stated priority of the university and is identified as one of the four strategic drivers of the Queen’s University Strategic Framework. The Advancement International Plan has been developed to guide Advancement’s international work until 2020.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Alumni and Student Engagement, the Alumni Officer, International Programs, will be responsible for implementing the strategies of the Advancement International Plan. This includes engaging alumni living internationally in a dialogue about Queen’s and its international priorities and initiatives; strengthening the international alumni presence in five priority regions: California, New York, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, and China; engaging volunteers in support of the Queen’s University Comprehensive International Plan (QUICIP); and increasing philanthropic support for international philanthropic priorities from both international and domestic alumni.
This position requires the incumbent to regularly travel and work evenings and weekends, and is subject to the Averaging and Travel Time Credit provisions of the USW Local 2010 Collective Agreement.
As the Alumni Officer, International Programs, Alumni Relations & Annual Giving you will:
- Collaborates with the Associate Director, Alumni and Student Engagement, and the Executive Director, Development and Campaign, to develop, implement and refine integrated alumni-development short and long-term plans and strategies, within deadlines; and to resolve problems encountered in implementing the Advancement International Plan.
- Understands the emerging trends of alumni, donor and volunteer attitudes, perspectives and behaviours, including demographic cohort trends. In consultation with the Associate Director, develops and implements strategic plans and innovative relationship-building programs that address these trends and assist in meeting alumni engagement, volunteerism, and philanthropic goals.
- Serves as a liaison between internal and external stakeholders, including Admissions, the Queen’s University Alumni Association (QUAA), the International Office, and the Dunin-Deshpande Innovation Centre to execute the alumni engagement, volunteer, and fundraising goals and strategies which map upon the strategic directions, needs and top priorities for Queen’s international activities. Provides expertise and support to enhance these key opportunities.
- Partners with faculty, staff, and senior administrators of the Bader International Study Centre (BISC) to develop the BISC alumni network, outlining goals and strategies for the engagement of BISC alumni through communications, strategic activities, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
- Develops and implements measures, metrics, and other evaluation tools to pursue continuous improvement based on feedback and program performance, designed to enhance program effectiveness. Assembles and analyses data to evaluate international activities; monitors, recommends, and implements improvements to processes and systems based on accurate and timely program analysis and reporting; demonstrates commitment to continuous improvement through applied bench marking efforts and data-driven decision-making.
- Works with faculty, staff and senior administrators in writing alumni and donor briefing notes in support of key international opportunities. Assists with pre/post visit planning and follow-up including updating all contact and assessment, relationship building, and stewardship activity on the Ellucian Advance Web database. Prepares and coordinates itineraries and briefing materials for senior administrators for international visits.
- Participates in the identification, development and delivery of key events, and works to enhance these key opportunities through goal setting, public relations and logistical planning.
- Partners as needed with the volunteers of the Queen’s University Alumni Association’s Board of Directors; providing support in their strategic priority of promoting a culture of volunteerism and philanthropy internationally.
- Undertakes other duties as assigned in support of the unit or department
The Alumni Officer, International Programs, Alumni Relations & Annual Giving also calls for:
- University degree required (preferably from Queen’s University at the Honours level).
- Minimum three years of professional experience in an institutionally relevant setting; experience with international programs, fundraising, and volunteer relations a decided asset.
- Demonstrated successful experience working with a diverse group of volunteers and staff to achieve shared priorities, combined with a proven ability to lead and coordinate preferred.
- Proven program and project management skills including an understanding of project management principles, practices, techniques and tools.
- Proven track record in implementing strategy and meeting objectives.
- Experience creating and developing briefing notes and associated fundraising proposals and correspondence.
- Experience in program analysis, tracking and reporting results.
- Advanced knowledge of operating systems including Windows, Microsoft, database packages, Ellucian Advance Web, and Internet tools for data and statistical analysis.
- Knowledge and understanding of the university and the challenges faced by post-secondary institutions.
- Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience
