Job Description

Are you looking for a challenging position where you can demonstrate your excellent policy and leadership skills? If so, consider this exciting opportunity with the Ministry of Transportation to provide strategic policy advice on corporate Indigenous issues, relations, programs and policy projects and initiatives and make effective recommendations.

What can I expect to do in this role?

In this role, you will:
• Provide research, coordination, advice and support to ministry staff on Indigenous issues
• Conduct projects for the research, identification, analysis and development of policy proposals, guidelines and programs
• Assess and undertake research and analysis related to Indigenous issues, policy and planning requirements
• Lead and participate in the development and ministry-wide implementation of new policies, guidelines and programs
• Provide advice/recommendations to senior management and staff on Indigenous issues and economic, social and environmental concerns related to transportation
• Lead the development of communications strategies and products to educate and raise awareness within Ministry of Transportation of Indigenous issues
• Identify and develop networks with internal and external stakeholders

How do I qualify?

Technical Knowledge:

• You have knowledge of government policy development processes, research principles, transportation economic principles
• You have knowledge of Indigenous issues (history, culture, treaties, land claims, negotiations, consultations, etc.), decision-making processes, programs, trends, partners, stakeholders, positions and public policy directions,
• You have knowledge and ability to interpret and apply Aboriginal-related Constitutional law and case law
• You have knowledge of statistical, forecasting and risk assessment, management strategies and techniques, program evaluation techniques, methodologies and analytical skills
• You have knowledge of standard office software programs and tools to research and prepare reports, correspondence and graphic presentations

Project Management Knowledge and Skills:

• You have knowledge of project management principles, practices and program planning to provide technical guidance and support to multidisciplinary project team of staff

Communication, Consultation and Consensus Building Skills:

• You are able to identify areas of concerns and negotiate problem resolution with government officials, partner ministries and external stakeholders;
• You have tact, diplomacy and conflict resolution skills to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive issues and for the resolution of contentious and politically sensitive issues
• You have communication skills to develop issues plans, House Notes, communications strategies, news releases, presentations, speeches etc., and to consult with internal and external contacts at all levels

Salary Range: $68,536 - $100,994 per year
