Kearl Plant Maintenance Rotating Equipment Specialist – Kearl Site, Alberta

Reporting to the Plant Maintenance General Foreman, this person is responsible for efficient maintenance management of plant mechanical rotating equipment to maximize overall availability and reliability, with a strong focus on managing safety and leading safety initiatives. Responsibilities include managing plant maintenance condition monitoring programs including vibration analysis, oil analysis, ultrasonic inspections, lubrication and thermography. The specialist performs hands-on troubleshooting and runs maintenance calls and equipment-failure investigation. The specialist trains and mentors operators and technicians, and develops maintenance training programs and procedures, providing procedure competency reviews on mechanical equipment maintenance work execution, operational tasks and update procedures as required. This position recommends solutions applying 5 Why’s and failure analysis, acting as direct liaison with reliability engineering on Root Cause Failure Analysis, and providing analytical data and validating performance data to support engineering analysis. The specialist conducts equipment assembly and installation inspections, providing expertise into equipment strategy, task list, spare parts and procedure development. Interfacing with Operations, Planning, Engineering and Programmatic organizations as required, the specialist is an Integral member of the Kearl reliability team and best practice networks.

This position will be a full-time fly-in, fly-out role to the Kearl site from either Calgary or Edmonton. Relocation assistance to Calgary or Edmonton is available if required. Bus transportation is also available to the Kearl site for Fort McMurray residents at the beginning and end of each shift rotation. Kearl operations positions will typically be 11 days on and 9 days off (shift rotations start and finish with a partial-day shift). Kearl Operations will provide safe, secure and quiet accommodations near the worksite for employees working on rotating work schedules. Facilities include a private room/washroom for each employee.

The successful applicant will possess a combination of the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Journeyman Millwright or Mechanical Technologist
  • Minimum 5 year’s maintenance or reliability experience with pumps, conveying systems, vibrating screens, crushers, turbines and power transmission systems
  • Basic knowledge and experience in predictive technologies such as oil analysis, vibration analysis, ultrasonic and thermography
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and trouble-shooting skills
  • Strong communication, team work, coordination, influencing and organizational skills
  • Commitment to improving the operation and generating revenue enhancement opportunities

Preference will be given to applicants with:

  • Self-motivation who lead by example
  • Ability to independently manage a diverse workload with changing priorities
  • Fluent computer skills (e.g., SAP, Excel, MS Word, Notes)
