Kearl Mine Maintenance Planner – Long & Short Range

Kearl is looking for skilled candidates with experience in planning and scheduling to join our Maintenance Planning department. There are opportunities for both a Long Range Mine Maintenance Planner and a Short Range Mine Maintenance Planner to join our team.  
Maintenance Planners are responsible for creating plans and task lists for either long-range or short-range maintenance repair activities. Planners work in collaboration with the Maintenance Planning team to support all execution within your assigned area. The focus of these positions is improvement of workforce productivity and maintenance of records and files for meaningful analysis of completed work.

Planner roles and responsibilities include developing detailed work plans for mine mobile equipment jobs, interfacing with various business units to facilitate the planning needs of the business for long- or short-range work, and working closely with the technical group for any work that will impact the facility through the AFE and MOC processes. Planners coordinate with materials coordinators, technicians and requirements planning analysts to ensure all required spares, material and service contracts are available, and work closely with field execution teams to understand labor allocation requirements and workload limitations. Planners work very closely with the Scheduler to ensure PM system management, forecasting upcoming work by engaging the operations and process engineering groups, and preparing work draft schedules. In addition, planners assist the Cross Functional Team in notification/work order assessment and screening to determine proper work scope definitions, prioritization and Latest Acceptable Completion Dates, proper authorization of work and contractor engagements. While maintaining excellent working relationships with other project functions, stakeholders and departments, these positions support a continuous improvement culture and champion the Kearl Business Process.

Depending on position and business need, these positions may be located at Imperial’s head office in Calgary, AB or they may be rotational and located at the Kearl site. If the position is located at Kearl it will be a full time, fly-in, fly-out role from either Calgary or Edmonton. Relocation assistance to Calgary or Edmonton is available if required. Bus transportation is also available to the Kearl site from Fort McMurray at the beginning and end of each shift rotation for Fort McMurray residents. Kearl operations positions will typically be 11 days on and 9 days off. (Shift rotations start and finish with a half-day shift.) Kearl Operations will provide safe, secure and quiet accommodations near the worksite for employees working on rotating schedules. Facilities include a private room/washroom for each employee.

The successful applicant will possess a combination of the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 5 year’s experience with mobile heavy industry maintenance with technical certification
  • Expert knowledge of Caterpillar mining equipment considered an asset
  • Expert knowledge of mine maintenance processes and oil sands maintenance programs
  • Familiarity with heavy industry planning, scheduling and execution concepts
  • Thorough working knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices
